Krystal Marsh's research is invested in early modern performance, theater history, gender studies, and critical race studies. My dissertation, “Ecologies of Performance in The United Kingdom’s National Shakespeare Theaters” explores how the Royal Shakespeare Company, the National Theatre, and Shakespeare’s Globe all utilize Shakespeare to create their own performance ethos, generate specific publics, and control Shakespeare’s capital in an evolving United Kingdom. I evaluate how these institutions dictate notions of national mythology and identity through their Shakespeare repertoire, particularly as it pertains to problems of race, gender, and globalism within the UK.
